‘On The High Seas’ Talk + Fork The Rosewood Uniting Church Adult Fellowship host occasional events which have a fundraising component but also create opportunities for fellowship, conversation and entertainment, including an appetising three course meal, all for a competitive price, and the funds usually go to a worthwhile cause. These are the TALK + FORK dinners, and the next one is scheduled for Saturday, May 25th, from 6.00pm. The theme of this one is ‘On The High Seas’ and will include a verbal and visual presentation from Revs Jeanette and Peter Taubner, on their Mediterranean Cruise and Tour of Italy. This is the first ‘public’ showing of many of their photos and stories and no doubt the beauty and wonder of all they saw, matched with the quirkiness of their sense of humour, should ensure a good night for all. The usual venue for these events is the Rosewood Uniting Church Hall, 21 John Street, Rosewood, with plenty of parking at the rear accessed from a driveway in John Street (opposite Drakes Supermarket) in between the Hall itself and the St Vinnies Op Shop. On this night, we will take a slightly nautical theme and the meal will be served buffet style like on board any cruise ship in the modern era. There will be many choices of food for all tastes but they will mainly have a link to the letter ‘P’ such as Pizza, Pasta, Pastries and Punch. Some gluten free options will also be served. To avail yourself of the chance to be there for this ‘World First’ top class presentation and a repast of wonderful food and beverages from the Mediterranean area of Europe, just phone either of two people and book your tickets. Joyce (5464 1316) and/or Shirley (0418 789 948) can help you with your pre-boarding questions and all your cruise details. You can purchase Adult entry for $12; Primary School age children entry for $5; or you can even sit at a special Table with all your family and friends if you’d like, by booking a Table of Eight for only $90. Your ‘Boarding Pass’ will be waiting for you as you arrive on the night. This particular event is raising funds for the Uniting Church ‘Uniting World’s’ Disaster Preparation in the Pacific Project. Disasters are inevitable but dying from them isn’t. And the difference is being ready. Being ready means knowing exactly what to do when disaster strikes – where to run, hide and how to survive. It means following evacuation plans and clear lines of communication so that networks of people can be mobilised. It means safe, strong shelter; stockpiles of food and water and the availability of trained mental health teams to provide support afterwards. Being ready is the secret to saving lives and helping people recover much faster. The problem is that most of us don’t think about giving to areas likely to be devastated by disaster until after the disaster hits. We see the shattered buildings, the mothers wading through dirty water, the children made hungry in drought – and we’re moved to give. lnvestment in disaster preparation could have saved their lives. More information will be available on the night. Please consider joining us for the Talk + Fork ‘On The High Seas’ event and supporting this worthwhile project.
